MAZDA Carbon Cycle Journey
- Mazda Motor Corporation

Background
Mazda aims to realize carbon-negative mobility by using Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture to capture CO₂ from exhaust gas while driving, and by reusing the captured CO₂ as fuel, carbon materials, and other resources.
This technology involves a concept in which CO₂ in exhaust gas is adsorbed and stored by a capture device, then connected to future resource circulation. However, the processes taking place inside the vehicle and the capture device, as well as the ways in which captured CO₂ may lead to broader forms of circulation, can be difficult for visitors to visualize concretely through panel displays or verbal explanations alone.
MESON therefore designed an experience scenario centered on “journeying from the perspective of CO₂,” creating an opportunity for visitors to see the future Mazda is aiming for as something personally relevant, and to deepen their interest in and understanding of environmental technology.
By allowing visitors not only to learn about invisible technology, but also to trace the movement of CO₂ and the expansion of circularity within space, MESON planned and produced “MAZDA Carbon Cycle Journey” as a brand experience that enables a physical understanding of Mazda’s initiatives.
Execution
“MAZDA Carbon Cycle Journey” is an immersive brand experience in which participants take on the perspective of CO₂ and follow the journey of CO₂ in exhaust gas as it is captured and moves toward circulation.
Within the experience, the scenario is structured as a single continuous journey: beginning with the issue of CO₂ emissions, introducing Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture, showing how CO₂ is adsorbed and stored inside the capture device, and then expanding toward the possibilities of captured CO₂ connecting to society and resource circulation.
By using Apple Vision Pro, the experience spatially visualizes the mechanisms inside the vehicle and the capture device, which are normally invisible, with the aim of helping visitors understand Mazda’s environmental technology through a physical, sensory experience.
▼Experience Features
- An immersive experience that follows the mechanism of the technology from the perspective of CO₂
Participants take on the perspective of CO₂ and follow how CO₂ in exhaust gas is captured. Rather than simply explaining the mechanism of the technology, the experience encourages understanding of Mazda’s CO₂ capture technology by placing participants inside that flow.
- Spatial visualization of what happens inside the vehicle and capture device
The mechanisms related to Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture were visualized through spatial expression. Processes that are difficult to convey through flat diagrams or video alone, such as CO₂ being adsorbed and stored inside the capture device installed along the exhaust path, were expressed three-dimensionally.
- A structure that expands the perspective from microscopic technology to macroscopic resource circulation
The experience was designed as a circular story centered on CO₂, gradually expanding the participant’s perspective from the microscopic viewpoint inside the capture device to a macroscopic viewpoint in which captured CO₂ connects to society and resource circulation, thereby conveying the future vision Mazda aims to realize.
Results
“MAZDA Carbon Cycle Journey” was exhibited at the Super Taikyu Series 2026 Round 3 Fuji 24 Hours Race, held at Fuji Speedway from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, 2026.
During the event, approximately 330 visitors experienced “MAZDA Carbon Cycle Journey,” including visitors interested in Mazda’s environmental technology and motorsports fans. Participants shared comments such as, “The sense of immersion was so strong that I felt as if I were actually moving,” and “I hope technologies like this — Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture — will help change society.”
